Frequently asked questions

Version 1.0, 7 November 2026. Public copy: socketandpivot.com/faq and docs.socketandpivot.com/faq. Every answer is checked against the product docs and test reports in Products/; update both when a product changes.

Products and versions

Which Unreal Engine versions do the kits support? The Corner Store Sampler and Props Starter are built and tested in Unreal Engine 5.8.3 on Windows 11 (DirectX 12, Shader Model 6). The projects are saved in 5.8, so they can't be opened in 5.7 or earlier. Mac, Linux, consoles and mobile haven't been tested. Each product's documentation (Documentation.html in the download) lists exactly what was tested.

Which Blender versions? Blender 5.2 LTS, tested with both Append and Link. Blender 4.5 LTS and 5.3 haven't been tested yet.

I don't use Unreal or Blender. Can I still use the props? Yes. Every download has an Exports/FBX folder with one FBX per prop (centimetres, Z up), the textures, and materials.csv listing each material's textures and settings. GLB and USD aren't included yet.

Do the interactions work in multiplayer? Not yet. The interaction system is built for single-player games and doesn't replicate over a network. It's listed under known limitations in each product's documentation.

Is any of it made with AI? No. The meshes, textures and label artwork are made by hand in Blender and our own scripts. Some surface textures start from CC0 photo scans (ambientCG, Poly Haven); each download's THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt lists them. The brands on the packaging are invented.

What's the difference between the Sampler and the Props Starter? The free Sampler has 10 props: the fridge, wall shelf, register, pedal bin, basket and five products, plus the interaction system and shelf slots. The Props Starter has 35 props, including those 10 under the same names, plus 18 product rows, a demo shop and an overview map.

Installing

How do I open the Unreal project? Unzip the download and open UE5/<ProductName>/<ProductName>.uproject in Unreal Engine 5.8, then press Play. The first launch compiles shaders and takes longer than later ones.

How do I add the props to my own project? Close your project. Copy Content/SocketAndPivot from the download into your project's Content folder, keeping the folder name. Open the project and load the demo map from SocketAndPivot/CornerStore/Maps. If you already have the Sampler, let the Props Starter replace its files.

The Interact key does nothing in my old project. Projects created before Unreal Engine 5 may still use legacy input. In Project Settings > Input, set Default Player Input Class to EnhancedPlayerInput and Default Input Component Class to EnhancedInputComponent.

How do I use the Blender library? In Edit > Preferences > File Paths > Asset Libraries, click Add and choose the Blender folder from the download. The props appear in the Asset Browser under Corner Store. Append (Reuse Data) is recommended; Link works too.

Can I use two Socket & Pivot kits in one project? Yes. Every kit shares one Core folder (interaction system, master materials, input). When both are installed, keep the newer Core.

The highlight doesn't show on my own meshes. The focus highlight lives in the material. Add a scalar parameter with Use Custom Primitive Data enabled at index 0 to your material, as M_SP_Master does. It works on Nanite meshes.

Licence

Can I use the assets in a commercial game? Yes, in any number of your own projects, commercial or not, including client work. You can't sell or share the asset files themselves. The licence has the details.

Do I need the Studio licence? Only if your organisation had US$100,000 or more in revenue and funding in the last 12 months. Under that, the Personal licence covers you and your whole team. The free Sampler has no limits.

Can I put the assets in a public GitHub repository? Not as raw files. Keep them in a private repository or share them privately with your collaborators. An open-source project can include them in packaged or compiled form.

Can I use them to train an AI model? No. The licence forbids training, fine-tuning, evaluating or prompting AI models with the assets (NoAI). On Fab, our listings carry Fab's NoAI tag.

I bought on Fab or Superhive. Which licence applies? The store's licence: Fab's Standard licence (Personal or Professional tier) or the licence shown on the Superhive page. Ours covers socketandpivot.com and Gumroad.

Do I have to credit you? No. Credit is welcome but not required.

Buying, refunds and updates

Can I get a refund? For socketandpivot.com and Gumroad purchases: if a product doesn't work as described and we can't fix it within 14 days, you get a full refund within 30 days of purchase. Duplicate purchases are refunded. Fab and Superhive refunds go through those stores. The refund policy.

Are updates free? Yes, for everyone who has the product, from the store where they got it. Changes are listed in each product's changelog.

Where can I buy? Fab (Unreal Engine buyers), Superhive (Blender buyers) and Gumroad (every format in one download). The free Sampler comes from socketandpivot.com. Store links go live with each product.

Do you sell to studios with invoices? Yes: email hello@socketandpivot.com with the product, the number of Seats and your billing details.
